Those protocols, while mature, are not well suited to provide sufficient bandwidth for the newest memory technologies. An all flash NVMe storage array can deliver data 6x faster than SAS or SATA, with a huge reduction in power consumption.

The Iris NV1220 has up to 20 hot-swap 2.5” 7mm SSD trays accessible from the front panel. This allows for 80 TB of ultra fast raw storage in just one rack unit.
